Magical girls and boys aren't just born.
They are normal boys and girls, until the day they create themselves.
All people have a wish. Something they desire more than everything else in the world.
Not all wishes are equal.
Some people have a strong passion to obtain their wish, and they will go to any lengths to get it. Their hearts are filled with desire, inspiration, and hope. They are young individuals with their whole life ahead of them, souls brimming with a burning desire to pursue the impossible. They're naive.
If by chance, one of these individuals has the luck to catch a shooting star and wish upon it, they will be confronted by the soothing voice of a mysterious girl.
The voice will simply say, "I can make your wish come true. All you need to do is agree to become Magical. Become Magi and fight off Forlorn Souls, and then I will grant your wish."
The deal is sealed.
There are no downsides.
Become a hero and get your wish granted.
Upon agreeing, they are given the powers of a Magi. Their heart is then embodied in a Solus Gem.
They are told, once they fill up their Solus Gem with Aurora, their wish will be granted.
From then on, they are a Magical girl/boy. They are a hero! They fight to save the people in the background, and become friends with all the other Magi.
At least, that's what they believe.
The reality is not the same.
Magi have an obligation to destroy Forlorn Souls. Destroying those creatures gives them a small amount of energy to fill up their Solus Gem. This energy is vital, it's craved, for some it becomes an addiction. It's such a small step towards the ultimate goal- Granting their wish- But it is the only way to get there.
If by chance a Magi decides to stop hunting Forlorn Souls, that would mean they have lost the inspiration to pursue their wish. The only wish worth granting is the one worth sacrificing for. So, if they lost the will to work toward their wish, their Solus Gem will slowly drain.
Their life force is passion and hope to fulfill their wish. If they lose interest in their wish, they will die, and another Magi will replace them.
Magi are disposable- they are simply the extraction tools for the Aurora that Forlorn Souls provide.
So, naturally, all Magi who are competing for Aurora are enemies. Most work alone, and some may even murder other Magi to eliminate competition. It's them, or you.
A select few Magi form alliances and work together. These tend to be more efficient, but are extremely hard to come by. Especially in the end, when the group reaps the spoils. Only one can have the prize.
Compete, murder, reap the rewards, repeat.
Magi don't know what they're doing or why they're doing it, but they continue because it's the only way to survive and reach their goal. They're tools for an unknown force that governs us from above.
So, become a Magi, and be a hero.
Ominous ending theme.
Anima Solus is a RP inspired by Madoka Magica. It is more of a deconstruction, since it breaks many of the rules of the main series to work as a RP that anyone can participate in. No, you don't have to have seen the series to join, but it's a good show so you should watch it. And it's short.
Quick definition list:
Magi- Equivalent of "Magical Girl", "Mahou Shoujo", or "Puella Magi". It means that magical state, but for both genders since all 3 aforementioned terms are female-specific, and this RP includes male characters.
Solus Gem- Soul gem, essentially. Except their soul is not in it, their heart is. They do not die by straying too far from their Solus Gem like in the series.
Forlorn Soul- Equivalent of witches or monsters at the end of the series. Except they're not made the same way they are in Madoka Magica.
Aurora- The energy that Magi must harvest to fill their Solus Gem.
